Wordle Clone

Harfleri yazın · Silmek için Backspace · Göndermek için Enter (5 harf gerekli)

Wordle-style word guess. Six attempts. Green = right letter, right spot. Yellow = right letter, wrong spot. Gray = not in word. 30-word vocabulary; not the official NYT list.

A 5-letter word-guessing puzzle in the Wordle style. You have 6 attempts to deduce the secret word. After each guess: green tiles are letters in the right spot; yellow tiles are letters in the word but the wrong position; gray tiles are letters not in the word at all. Use the feedback from each guess to narrow down possibilities.

Wordle was created by Josh Wardle as a personal gift for his partner in 2020, made publicly available in October 2021, and exploded virally in January 2022. The New York Times bought it for “in the low seven figures” (roughly $1-3 million) in late January 2022, just three months after public launch. By February 2022, daily players were estimated at 2-3 million. The original game (still hosted by NYT) uses a curated word list of ~2,300 valid answers and a much larger ~13,000-word valid-guess list. This clone uses a similar split.

The information-theoretic optimal opening word has been the subject of papers and YouTube videos. Grant Sanderson’s 3Blue1Brown analysis (February 2022) found SALET as the best opener by expected information gain (using bits-of-information mathematics) — though human players using more common openers like CRANE, SLATE, AROSE, or ADIEU tend to perform similarly because the difference in long-run guess count is fractional. The math: 5-letter word search space has ~13K candidates; each green/yellow/gray response carries log2(remaining) bits of information; optimal play averages ~3.5 guesses for unfamiliar puzzles.

Nasıl Kullanılır

  1. Type 5 letters using your keyboard or click the on-screen letter buttons.
  2. Press Enter to submit. Invalid words (not in the dictionary) are rejected; valid words light up with feedback.
  3. Read the feedback: green = right letter and right position; yellow = right letter, wrong position; gray = letter not in the word.
  4. Use elimination to deduce. After 2-3 guesses, you typically have enough info to narrow to 5-15 candidates.
  5. Keep going until you guess the word or run out of attempts (6 max). Win or fail, the answer reveals after game ends.

Ne Zaman Kullanılır

  • Quick 2-5 minute brain break — typical Wordle game runs 3-5 minutes.
  • Word-game practice — vocabulary, pattern recognition, deductive logic all exercise.
  • Casual daily ritual (most Wordle players do one a day, sometimes with friends or family).
  • Pure puzzle time when the official NYT Wordle is paywalled or you've already done today's.

Ne Zaman Kullanılmaz

  • When you want a longer game — Wordle is designed for short play.
  • When you find vocabulary games frustrating — some words are obscure or use unusual letter combinations.
  • Multiplayer / co-op — Wordle is single-player by design.

Yaygın Kullanım Senaryoları

  • Pre-decision sanity-check on inputs and outputs
  • Educational use — demonstrating the underlying concept
  • Onboarding a colleague who needs the same calculation/conversion
  • Verifying a number or output before passing it on

Sık Sorulan Sorular

What's the best opening word?

Information theorists prefer SALET (Grant Sanderson 3Blue1Brown, 2022, by expected bits of information). Common alternatives that perform nearly as well: CRANE, SLATE, AROSE, ADIEU. The math: high-frequency vowels (A, E, O) and common consonants (S, T, R, L, N) maximize the chance of green/yellow tiles. Difference between 'optimal' and 'good' openers in long-run average guess count is fractional (3.42 vs 3.50ish) — pick what you remember.

Why are some words rejected as invalid?

Because the dictionary doesn't include them. Common rejections: contractions (can't), proper nouns (Paris), profanity (most word lists exclude offensive terms), very obscure words. The valid-guess list is larger than the answer list — so a word being a valid GUESS doesn't mean it'll be the ANSWER, but rejected words aren't either.

What's hard mode?

Optional rule: green and yellow tiles MUST be reused in subsequent guesses. So if you get a green E in position 3, every subsequent guess must have E in position 3. Yellows must be present somewhere. Hard mode forces you to commit to information from earlier guesses; without it, you can use later guesses to gather new info even if it 'wastes' known letters. Most players don't use hard mode unless playing competitively.

Is it a different word every time?

In this clone: a random word from the answer list per game (you can play multiple games per day). The official NYT Wordle: one shared word per day for everyone, randomized per-day from the full answer list. The shared-word-per-day mechanic is what made Wordle viral — people share their results with friends and compare.

What happened to Heardle / Quordle / other variants?

Wordle's success spawned dozens of clones with twists: Heardle (audio Wordle), Quordle (4 simultaneous Wordles), Octordle (8 at once), Worldle (geography), Framed (movies via screenshots). NYT acquired Heardle in 2022 (later shut down), Wordle itself, and various variants. The genre stabilized around the original NYT Wordle plus a long tail of niche variants.

What's the optimal strategy beyond the opener?

After your opener, switch to information-gathering moves that test 5 NEW letters when feasible (avoid reusing greens/yellows; the goal of guess 2 is to maximize info from new letters). After 2 guesses, you typically have enough constraints to commit. Hard-mode players have to incorporate greens/yellows; standard mode gives more flexibility.
